This design features a replica of the Forster Flag, used by Samuel Forster, Lt., Manchester Company of the Essex County Militia of Massachusetts. The Manchester Company was an organized colonial militia that played a crucial role in the American Revolutionary War and were commonly known as ‘Minutemen’ for their ability to be battle-ready at a moments notice. This flag helped differentiate The Minutemen militia colors from those used by the British and served as a symbol of national unity and independence.
Until this flag was donated by descendants of Samual Forster to the Spicer Art Conservation in 2014, it was the last surviving flag of the Revolutionary War period to be privately held.
